My Students

Our school community consists of a diverse student body, varying in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and academic needs. They seek to be successful and achieve success with the engagement of caring teachers and support systems throughout the school community.

These young artists are eager to create!

Our school restarted its art program last year, after some years without one. The students have given their all to overcome obstacles and support one another's learning in the art room. We're having a blast, and we're just getting started!

My Project

Becoming an artist requires more than just developing creative skills. Artists are responsible for caring for their materials and space. This is especially important in shared spaces such as the art classroom, where respecting the environment impacts how all visitors interact with the space.

"Artists and designers balance experimentation and safety, freedom and responsibility while developing and creating artworks."

This is one of our Indiana academic standards for Visual Arts. Our students are held accountable for safety and responsibility in art class each and every day.

This school year in particular, students have worked extra hard to care for our space, after our class was relocated to a carpeted classroom. Art is messy! If you walked into our classroom during clean up, you'd find students on hands and knees picking up the tiniest scraps of materials to try and care for the space. Often times, we just can't get every miniscule bit. Our custodians have been very patient with us, but we know we can do better! The vacuum cleaner you provide will be used by students to do their very best at showing responsibility in the art room.
