My students are from a school where most students receive free or reduced lunch. We are located in rural Eastern Kentucky and the students are very proud of that. My students love learning and love being active outside of school. They are involved in many different activities such as sports, band, drama, etc. Such programs help keep our students out of trouble and off of drugs that have become a problem in almost every town or city in America. I am proud of my students and all of their accomplishments and only want the best for them.
My Project
We need help starting a pep band for our school. We need low-cost reeds to help us do this. These reeds would be used at all pep band games that we attend for our school. It would also help us add members to our band.
The reason I chose these reeds is because it is cost-effective and can and will be used for many years by our students.
This is only our 2nd year of having a band. Our school did have one over 15 years ago and the program was killed. Now that we are trying to bring it back we need more instruments. These reeds will make a great sound but also help improve students' confidence with music. It is very hard to keep trying to play something when you don't have a good reed to take home and practice with. One instrument can and will help with this. These reeds will be used every day at games, concerts, rehearsals, and practice. Having this can and will help with student learning because they have an instrument to practice and learn with and that will result in better musicians and overall students.
Please keep in mind that we are a very low economic area with high drug use. The after-school pep band will help keep some kids out of trouble. An extra instrument is one more child not in trouble.
