Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come into the school with a significant gap when it comes to reading and writing. During their 4th grade year, they are with me; it is my mission to bridge the educational gap and better their educational experience.
Approximately 80% of our students come from bilingual households, so they strive for as much help as possible in the classroom.
For a low income, high poverty area, I want my students to be able to come into my science classroom yearning to close their own gaps and succeed at their goals for the future.
My Project
"Can I borrow a book?" These words are magic to a teacher's ears! It has been proven and over again that to become better readers, it takes practice. The books that I have asked for will definitely help engage my students and provide the evidence that they need to back up their writing.
My students depend on me to take them on a scientific journey throughout the year.
Aside from the books, I've also asked for some materials to help the students have a better understanding of simple machines because they are really struggling to know the difference between the different machines. I'm a big believer in "hands on" learning when possible. You'll see this as well when the light circuits for the same reason. They will be able to see just how important a full circuit is in order to create light!
With these books and materials, I can take them on a journey that will impact them for the rest of their life! They will WANT to read! They will WANT to learn! Most importantly, they will WANT to come to school and own their education.
