My Students

Help me keep our kids working in the garden. Now that we have begun the growing! My goal is to make it easy to work in the garden so they will keep coming back.

My students are mostly low economic children.

Half of them are second language speakers and want to learn everything! We are an urban school with an established neighborhood. We have 70% on free lunch and have many programs to help our children succeed. Our students are happy and can't wait to work in our garden.

My Project

We have tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, jalapenos, cantaloupe, bell peppers, strawberries, grapes, blackberries and squash growing in our garden. Now we have to keep the kids coming into the garden to work! Weeds need to be pulled and grass kept away from the beds. The kids need gloves to keep from getting their hands hurt from prickly weeds or bugs in the area. We also need a way to get hoses around the area to water our plants and clean supplies off. The solar lights are for evening work nights. Our kids are so dedicated they stay late and help. We are having an ice cream picnic in the garden in May if we get the lights. That will be their reward.

Help me show our kids they can get rewarded for hard work, that they can be safe and still have fun in our garden while we grow food and teach them how food is provided and why we need to know these skills.
