Sprocket Rocket: Portable Printing to Enhance Student Engagement
Help me give my students a portable printer to bring their AR codes to life as we strive to integrate authentic and dynamic opportunities into our everyday classroom experience.
I teach teenagers, ages 15-18, whose learning needs are as varied as they, themselves, are. We are in a Title I district that has 50+% free and reduced-price lunch. In addition to our already impoverished community, we were hard hit by Hurricane Harvey.
Our amazing students have struggled and triumphed through trauma after trauma over the last couple of years, but our state scores were one of the lowest in the area as a direct result of these events.
Please help me to help them.
My Project
As someone who has arrived late to the game of technology in the classroom, I have been jumping in feet first to engage my students in a world that they are native to bridge the gap. I have been utilizing Flipgrid with noticeable positive returns, so the next step is to integrate AR(augmented reality) technology so that students can create a video and AR code, print it off with this portable Sprocket, and place it in a myriad of locations throughout the classroom, campus, and community.
This foray into augmented reality is an exciting and anxiety-inducing leap of faith that my students and I are taking together.
By funding this project, you will be helping these goals become reality. The more I can get my students engaged, the better their performance and the smaller the achievement gap from same-aged peers in other schools.
