Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Ours is a small school located in Northeast, DC. Our students come from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our scholars enjoy learning but face many challenges in their day to day life outside of school. Our school is 100% Title I.

Our students' lack of access to technology limits their ability to make significant gains.

The teachers and staff at Houston are extremely committed to the students and work hard to mitigate the traumas that children experience outside of school. However, there is limited funding for extras and staff fundraise or contribute to stretch our school budget.

My Project

Sphero SPRK+ units will provide our scholars with multiple ways to improve their computational thinking and mathematical ability. Using robotics to build their skills in these areas will allow our students to develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Our students need to possess computational thinking skills in order to be globally competitive.

To be successful in life students need to be adaptable and developing computational thinking skills is a baseline requirement in many professions. Having students work with the Sphero SPRK+ allows our students to develop the problem solving skills that are necessary in all facets of their learning and crosses all disciplines.
