As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my young students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these many challenges, I work to provide a learning environment where my students can achieve great things through creative and meaningful learning experiences.
"Kiss your brain" is a phrase we use to celebrate the amazing learning that happens daily.
This learning can look like puzzling through how to build letters and numbers out of blocks, exploring in our sensory table, building pattern trains, creating gigantic animals out of paper and also connecting to, and expanding on the stories we read daily. I enter into my classroom daily with the goal of creating a learning environment where my students have their curiosity piqued, their learn expanded and are encouraged to be successful life-long lovers of learning.
We are entering into the season we have all been waiting for, Spring! With the anticipation of the change in season, my students are budding with creative energy. What can we do? What can we create? The possibilities are endless.
As I strive to be a better teacher for my students, I continue to learn the importance of offering open-ended, creative activities that allow students to develop their own sense of wonder and express their very own ideas.
I look forward to offering my students opportunities to explore Spring changes both in and outside of the classroom. We will use the "Giant Bug collection" in our sensory table to count legs and antennas, compare and contrast shape and form and create our very own kinds of bugs! We look forward to creating spring flowers using water color, markers and collage materials. Our classroom will be bursting with signs of spring. The drying rack will come in handy to organize students wet art creations. Incorporating these art materials into our classroom will assist students with fine motor development, while also giving my students the opportunity to blossom in their creative expression.
I look forward to sharing with you the amazing things they will create.
