The Spring Stock Market game is exciting because the students and teachers are experienced and ready to compete on a higher level after playing the Fall game.
My students are in the ninth grade and are required to take one semester of economics.
My building is currently at 50% poverty level. My district is 70% poverty level and are 42% minority. These students have played the Fall Stock Market Game and will be ready to perform even better in the Spring. The students will do their best and appreciate the opportunity to succeed.
My Project
The Stock Market Game is a national economic education program and involves students managing an imaginary $100,00 portfolio over a 10 week period. The Spring Game is more competitive and involves more competition on a higher level due to that the students are now experienced. This is a tremendous motivational value to continue to practice. The students will be able to use the lab practice for future economic decisions in an ever increasing competitive global economy. Classes tie this into current world events and global issues. Students will write the invest/write essay contest. Playing the SMG will enable students to do their best work and reinforces learning for a life time.
The Stock Market Game will provide an authentic experience for students by engaging in how business firms are organized, how stocks are purchased and sold. Financial information is researched and analyzed during the school year. The students will be able to judge situations in a changing global economy.
This will be a very interesting year for the SMG with the current world situation.
Students are challenged to use project based learning, presentations, close reading, purposeful hands-on activities, cooperative learning strategies, higher level thinking skills to accomplish their goals The SMG game increases the vocabulary and background knowledge needed to succeed in real life and supports future finical goals. The SMG creates finical responsibility that will pay off as an adult.
