Ms. Lerma from Oklahoma City OK is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of bugs to investigate and classify. My students need a hands-on ladybug life cycle kit. My students need a center to sequence life cycles.

A typical day in my classroom is very active. I teach Kindergarten so we are always up moving and doing hands on interactive activities all while learning the skills these students need to be promoted on to 1st grade.
A majority of my students do not get to venture out and explore things in a safe environment.
They are not able to go to parks on a regular basis. Their view on a park is a playground at their apartment complex where they have to worry about gang activity surrounding them. They live in a low poverty and high violence area. I love their spirits when they come to school. When they walk through the doors they know they are in a safe place and are free to expand their minds to new things. My students are eager to learn new things always. They enjoy hands on activities that keep their minds thinking on a higher level.
Of the 7 years I have been teaching Kindergarten this seems to be my students' favorite time of the year. I have a ladybug land that I get live larvae for. They get to watch these ladybugs transform through the different stages and then help me to release them onto our playground. I think a ladybug lifecycle they are able to touch and see up close will increase their knowledge to a whole other level. I am requesting these new items for my students so they are able to enjoy more hands on insect activities. They are always excited for this unit but I believe if they are able to see and touch bug replicas up close it will help to expand their minds. My students will learn about the different life cycles and body parts of a variety of insects. The students will also classify and categorize the insects different ways.
This donation will improve my classroom because I do not have a lot of hands on insect center materials.
The students always get to see our live ladybugs, but all they can really do is see with their eyes. This will help with their higher level thinking to be able to investigate and observe the different variety of insects and their life cycles.
