Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic learners and are beginning to understand and appreciate their environment and the world they live in. They enjoy hands-on activities and experiments. They appreciate anything that is donated to our class.
My Transitional Kindergarten students are eager to learn and become great mathematicians and scientist.
However, we lack some supplies to fulfill their needs. I teach wonderful, curious, and active students who live in a low income, high poverty area of Los Angeles. The majority of my students are second-language learners.
My Project
I have been incubating chicks for the past 10 years. My students have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to see chicks hatch out of the eggs. Unfortunately, my incubator has given all it's got. Last spring it took it's last breath and is no longer usable. My former students learn so many things, like counting the hatching days, watching the chickens grow through photos, "peeking" inside by candling the eggs, writing about the process, and watching the chicks peep their way out of the eggs! They cared for the chicks for about a week until they were returned to the my moms farm.
For the above amazing reasons I am requesting 2 incubators so that all my students can continue have that great experience.
The life cycle set will give the student the opportunity to see how a chick develops inside the egg.
