This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a small rural town in Alabama. 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our students come from various backgrounds. Some come from low poverty homes. Some may not have access to a diversity of books at home, so the school library is where they have an opportunity to have access to books.
Our library is a very popular location in the school.
Many students, mainly the fifth and sixth graders, visit the library each day. My hope is to raise the reading interest of seventh and eighth graders while continuing to provide great titles for our active readers with a larger variety of books and resources.
My Project
Our students are learning and growing! The library is an important part of the growing process. Our students look to the library to help provide them with exciting new books. We are always excited when the library has new titles.
Each fall, winter, and spring of the year our students take the STAR test.
The STAR test gives a report on the students' reading levels. We will use the new books to help our students read new titles on their new reading levels. We know that reading is important, so putting new books in our students' hands will help them continue to learn and grow.
