This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My fourth graders come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of my students are accustomed to dealing with tough situations. My goal as an educator is to give my students the resources they need to understand the wider world and their place in the world. Social justice is important to me, and I want my students to form their own set of ideals about our world.
I want my students to be empowered to find their voice and use that voice to change policies, practices, and beliefs.
My students teach me something new everyday - Now, it's time for me to return the favor.
My Project
My students love to read. As of the time I am writing this, they have read almost 5,000,000 words this school year. However, we need some new books in our classroom library to help encourage our love of reading and to hit our 9,500,000 word goal by May 2018. I am asking for a boxed set of the Baby-Sitters Club Graphix book as well as copies of twenty-five books including The Stars Beneath Our Feet, Black Panther The Young Prince and Aru Shah and the End of Time
Diverse books full of diverse experiences are important.
I hope to bring some fresh, new titles into my library so that my students can see themselves reflected in the books they are reading. I hope to build a community of readers that will last not just through the end of fourth grade, but beyond.
