Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
¡Hola! We are the 1st-grade team of teachers at a Spanish immersion school in Minneapolis. We are proud to celebrate Latino culture through our academic program and bilingual education. Our students come from a diverse set of backgrounds. Some are native Spanish speakers, and others are Spanish learners. Over three-quarters of the school is low income with 70% of students receiving free or reduced-price school lunch.
My Project
We are starting the school year with a 100% remote learning format with our school library closed and many of the Minneapolis libraries inaccessible to our students. We want our students to experience the joy of getting their own books in the mail with their name on the package, opening it up, and getting lost in a good story. AKJ Education offers books in Spanish for $1.50, so just $15 will allow a student to receive one book a month throughout the 10-month school year. Our goal is to raise funds for all 94 first graders—can you help us reach our goal?
