My students need a laptop and digital camera as well as books on character education to create digitals stories that support the no bullying theme at our school.
Our school is focusing on character education to include the acceptance of all members of our communities. My students know that our classroom philosophy is that everyone has a positive contribution to make to our world.
My classroom is made up of a variety of special education students with various identified disabilities.
My students come from both low income and military families with various backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities. We are a public school in a rural area of North Carolina and considered high poverty. My students are hard working students who do not allow their disabilities to define or limit them!
My Project
My students have an incredible understanding of what it is like to be viewed as different and want to use that knowledge to make a difference in our school. We will use the requested books to hear stories of children who are struggling with some of the same issues they face. We will then use the digital camera and laptop to create digital projects that we will post on our schools website showing the traits that should be used by all members of our school community.
Everyday in the news we are hearing about children who suffer at the hands of bullies.
Character education is as important as any other subject in our schools right now. My students and I want to be part of the change in our school that we want to see globally!
