My students are a fantastic bunch of kids who have so much potential. More than 3/4 of the students are from low-income households and do not have access to learning opportunities outside of school. As we become a family in my classroom, my students need to be able to translate the feeling of connection they have with each other to connect with the world around them. They need to see how they are represented in my curriculum so the positive messages become a part of who they are!
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela
My students have tons of potential and great ideas. They are so excited to come to school and let their creativity flow. When my read-aloud stories include characters that are just like them with feelings just like they have, they will blossom with new ideas!
My Project
My students come to me with so many emotions. They have big emotions ranging from confusion to worry to anger, along with many positive emotions. Their emotions are all jumbled together creating a tangled mess of feelings that they do not know how to properly handle.
The rich literature and books in this project will greatly impact the emotional health of my students.
My students need to read about good ways to deal with big emotions. They need to practice how to deal with their feelings in positive ways. These books will be used in class read-alouds and discussed in the context of their lives.
