Help me give my students Botley the Coding Robot, A Code and Go Robot Mouse, and a storage case to give my students the chance to learn what their older siblings and other students are doing.
My school is in a low-income area with a high ESOL and Special Education population. All of our students are entitled to free breakfast and lunch.
My students are a very energetic group of second graders who are eager to learn and find new ways to learn things.
I would like to expand my students' ability to use more technology besides computers and iPads in the classroom. Some of my students, who have older siblings in the building, keep hearing about "coding" that they do with their teachers. Mine have asked me about it, and I think it would be just as enjoyable to my second grade students as it is to their older siblings.
My Project
My students have been using LEGO's and other STEM materials to enhance learning throughout this school year and are loving it! The hands on "toys" will make learning fun, and, I expect to see that they hardly realize that they are learning.
Students will become the "teacher" and collaborate with their peers.
This will not only allow them freedom to program something, it will also enhance their communication skills.
By using Botley the Coding Robot and the Code and Go Mouse my students will learn more about Coding and watching Botley come alive. Coding is another way to prepare students for the technological advances that the future holds. With Coding they will have the ability to teach something themselves and actually see it follow directions.
By developing coding in second grade, I would love to see my students compete against their older siblings and show them what they know.
