My Students

Finding "just the right spot" in a classroom is often a time consuming and challenging job wasting precious school time!

My second graders go to a small school in a rural community.

In fact, they are the only second grade class in the school! Many of my students fall below the poverty line. Money for supplies are often very limited - for the kids and the school budget.

My Project

Our class spends a great deal of time on the floor in instruction, partner and group work. Finding a "spot" on the floor can be an instruction and work time waster. Having a rug where everyone has their own "spots" would be a great organizational tool. It would save precious time (which is in high demand during our day) and give the kids ownership and the routine of knowing where they belong. Working with their study and reading buddies would no longer be a challenge - knowing their partner was right next to them on their own "spot."

Not only would our spotted rug be a thing of great organization, time savings, and routine building, but it would help with transitions.

It would increase the comfort of students (who doesn't like to sit on a cozy rug!), and make our classroom more warm and inviting. It would help to increase learning time, and make it fun, comfy and organized!
