The students benefiting from this project are extremely special. A majority of them come from low-income families, with minimal support at home. Many of the students were either born in a different country, or have family who was. As a result, English is the second language for most of them. Being English Language Learners has caused a gap between many of them and their grade level peers. For many of them, it is extremely difficult to catch up due to the lack of English at home, and the inability to receive academic support at home. Fortunately, this hasn't deterred them from working their hardest and trying to catch up. All of the students really are special, and would be so grateful for your support.
My Project
For organized sports games, having pinnies to create separate teams is essential. The pinnies we currently have are very old, and often go missing. Right now, we have a variety of colors, but often only have 3-4 of each color. For our larger games, we typically play 5 on 5, or 6 on 6. Right now we struggle to find enough pinnies. Sometimes we have to have mix-matched teams, or have kids wear their regular t-shirts during the games. The new jerseys would create complete sets.
These kids will love the new pinnies and be excited to use them during their daily games.
