Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful hardworking 5th graders that live in a low socioeconomic community in California. Even though they're up against the odds, they show up every day eager to learn and work. My students are still at an age where they are passionate about learning and curious about the world. Being from a poor community, many of my students do not have all the materials they need to be successful. Unfortunately, our school isn't able to provide them with those materials either because of budget restrictions. I believe that students can only succeed if they have the right equipment. As our future workforce, I believe it is imperative that they get the opportunity to use the materials they need to live healthy lifestyles and be physically fit.
My Project
I want to bring team sports back to elementary. I want my students to have all the equipment they need to be able to play sports during recess and P.E. Currently, our schools tether ball courts are missing the tether balls. The soccer balls and soccer goals will allow my students to play soccer during recess. It will also allow me to teach them the fundamentals of soccer during P.E. The flag football belts will allow my students to learn how to play football during P.E. My goal is to give students at my school the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sports and an opportunity to be physically active during recess and lunch. I believe that sports are a way for students to stay on the right track in school. They're also important because they keep children physically fit.
