I teach at a Native American School in Southern New Mexico where every student receives free breakfast and lunch. My students come from mostly low income/high poverty families that do everything they can to help them thrive. Despite facing so many difficulties and uncertainties in their lives, they come to school determined to better their lives and community.
These students are full of energy and enthusiasm for life and learning; they just need the materials and opportunities to help them succeed.
The support from generous donors helps these wonderful kids to experience new opportunities that they otherwise would not have access to.
My Project
My students need sports equipment to use during recess to make them more active. We are lucky to have an amazing playground at my school with equipment that is very appropriate for smaller children. Unfortunately, my fifth graders have mostly outgrown the slides and monkey bars and are looking for more competitive and engaging activities.
Basketball, football and other competitive sports are engaging and keep my students happy and active which boosts their academic performance in the classroom.
With 48 5th graders outside for recess these six basketballs, flag football set, and tether balls will really make a difference in their ability to have fun in a competitive and safe way.
