Thank goodness I can read phonetically because that is how my students spell. I would love to see correct spelling on the final copies of their writing, so I am requesting a grant to purchase 12 spell checkers. I teach fourth grade language arts and social studies in a magnet school. I have seen my students make tremendous growth in writing this school year. To revise our writing we have used traditional dictionaries and thesauri, along with a few spell checkers. It would be ideal if I could have one spell checker for each pair of students. In actuality, 12 spell checkers would serve 50 students since I teach 2 groups of 25. The spell checkers I am requesting will both check student spelling and find synonyms for overused words. Again, I want my students to have the opportunity to use technology, in the form of spell checkers, to improve the revision step in the writing process.
