The wonderful thing about my students is that each one of them comes to school every day with the most important tool they will need throughout their lives, a desire to explore. With just this one tool it is possible to spark so much growth.
When you were a student do you remember ever feeling embarrassed to raise your hand in class when you knew the answer to a question?
My students are incapable of such nonsense! They are eager to share their experiences; what they already know and what they want to learn. Each day that I get to spend learning with them is a gift. They are keeping me young!
Outdoor play and learning experiences are critical to a young child's development. Unfortunately, in most schools, these experiences are curtailed at the first sign of rain or even remaining puddles on the playground or other outside learning areas. Being able to stomp in rain puddles or explore the world when it is wet (worms, anyone?) is one of the great joys of childhood.
We would love to continue learning outdoors even on those rainy days.
However, because most of our students are not able to provide their own rain boots to keep at school, we are forced to keep all students indoors on these rainy days. With a classroom set of rain boots and ponchos, we can continue to explore the great outdoors. Splish, Splash!
