This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pre-K students are the best! They are a breath of fresh air, a new beginning, clean slates... and it is with great excitement that I get to welcome them to their first public school experience! My class is publicly funded by the state through the Virginia Preschool Initiative "to provide quality preschool programs for at-risk four-year-olds unserved by Head Start." I am so excited to be in this school setting and cannot wait to add more educational and exciting learning experiences to my classroom!
My Project
Sensory experiences are so important for student development. A table full of water can help calm a child on a rough day by letting them fill and pour a bucket. A child who needs to develop stronger fine motor skills can pinch plastic bones in a table full of sand using tweezers. During a week learning about the beach, children who have never been able to make the trip can feel the sand run between their fingers. In the spring, a week about flowers can be extended to include a table full of soil and shovels so they can really feel involved in the learning experience! The possibilities are endless!
