Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is home to students from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom are from low income families. I try to supply most materials (out of my pocket) for my students since most cannot afford to pay anything.
Our students learn to value the importance of strong work ethics.
Once our students understand how much effort a teacher puts into helping them learn, they "buy in" to the idea of working hard to accomplish a goal. Many of our students do not have those role models to instill a life-long ethic of completing a task or job.
Often, teachers will say that they would be happy making a difference in the life of one child. I disagree; I have around 100 students every year. I have to make a difference in most of my students! I want them break the cycle of feeling victimized by others and to take charge of their own lives! I know they have it in them!
My Project
Students who interact with their education using multiple senses, including touch, are more likely to be involved in their learning "hands on."
These spiral notebooks become "interactive notebooks." Students not only use them to take notes, but also have opportunities to process information at many different levels, thereby expanding their ability to learn.
We have about 100 students who need 6 notebooks each. I want to help ease the cost of their school supplies (schools do not have the funds to provide as much materials as they used to).
These are used in all subject areas, even in music class!
