My students need a prize wheel, a Giant Kerplunk game, disco ball, Smencils and storage to motivate and improve engagement, so they do their best always.
My fourth graders are a diverse group of students. I have several special education students, as well as general education students. Some are working below grade level, some are working on grade level, and some are above grade level learners. No matter what level they are, they should all feel confident and excited and important every day.
My classroom is a place that is welcoming, where my students' imaginations grow wild and they are encouraged to reach their fullest potential on a daily basis.
My students need to be challenged, inspired and engaged in order to learn and make sense of the world around them. I work in a large district that serves a diverse population.
As students enter my classroom, I want them to feel that they are in a fun, safe place to learn and to be able to take risks and feel empowered.
My Project
Focusing and rewarding good behaviors and decisions is important to creating an environment that engages all my students. Spotlighting good behaviors and encouraging students to reach their goals will take on new meaning with a giant Kerplunk game. Rewards will be written on the balls so that when good choices are made the students can pull a stick to receive an incentive. This will entice other students to make good choices.
Never underestimate the power of small incentives such as spinning a prize wheel with student generated experiences that could be as simple as wearing slippers all day to improve student motivation.
The prize wheel will be used to write in incentives specific to the needs of my students. The disco ball will be one of the incentives used to motivate my students. Smencils and Emojis will be used as prizes the students can earn. The storage ottomans will serve a dual purpose to store the incentives as well as provide a cozy spot for reading.
The effectiveness of my incentive program depends on a design that grabs my students’ curiosity. The giant Kerplunk, prize wheel and disco ball are chosen to do just that, motivate my students. Creating a culture that fosters peace, pride, respect and responsibility will greatly improve when the students are given a little extrinsic motivation to help them. Incentives help give my students just a little push to accomplish their goals. Help to motivate and captivate my students!
