I am a newly appointed STEM teacher with 10+ years of experience as an early childhood general education teacher. I teach in a high needs, Title I school. Our school is new, sixth year in, replacing a school that has phased out. WE HAVE TO STAND OUT!
My students are mostly from shelters or foster homes in the area, which are all riddled with gang violence, drugs and guns.
This creates a very transient population for our school and a hardship on our dedicated staff. Our children have seen and experienced more in their short little lives than most of us could dream of in our worst nightmares.
Despite this, I want to inspire them to be better and do better. The ability to open their eyes and show them that there is more out there in the world is my goal for this school year! "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." ~Henry Adams
My students struggle with engagement and motivation during my day to day lessons. I've learned over the years that a little motivation goes a long way!
Another teacher gave me this wonderful idea of a prize wheel!
This gives the students ownership of their own learning/motivation. If they have a goal to work towards, they are more than likely to work towards that goal, especially if it's met with an immediate reward. I've tested this out using an on-line wheel, however, I believe something they can actually spin in real life will be more motivating. The prizes I am asking for are engaging and STEM related as well. With the donation of this prize wheel, and building blocks, fidget spinner, led light up toys, puzzle balls, and squishy animal prizes the children will light up! The network adapter and lightning cable will help me connect to the Smartboard, so I can project pictures of them winning their prizes!
