Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sweet, sweet students love to write! They love to play pretend and they love to learn.
My school has over twenty-five countries represented in it.
My school is also a Title I school and 47% of our population is English Language Learners. My students live in neighborhoods where poverty and crime are the norm. My students face numerous struggles each day. They come from families that are not always able to provide supplies or academic assistance.
Given all of the challenges my students face each day, my hardworking second grade class comes to school every day with a smile on their faces and love of learning in their hearts. It is very simple; my students love school. School is their safe place. It is more than just the place where they come to learn. It is the place where they are loved! In many ways, my students are typical second graders. They are full of wonder, joy, and laughter. They love books, puzzles, and markers. Life is not always easy for these kiddos, but they have learned that hard work and perseverance pays off. It is an honor to be their teacher.
My Project
The students in my second grade class are active. To say they like to move is an understatement. They are busy, busy, busy all day long. Research has shown that movement helps students learn. I want to do everything I can to help them learn. These Hokki stolls are like spinners that a students can sit on while learning.
My students overcome so many daily struggles that it's important they have every tools and resources I can give them to even the playing field of learning.
The Hokki stools in this project will enable my students to move while seating...what an awesome concept. Almost 90% of my students are not performing on grade level and these stools will be used by them during our small group reading and math time. Given that my students need and want to move, I would love them to have these stools to help them focus more on learning and less on moving.
