This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Thank you for letting me introduce you to my students! I work at a Title I school in southwestern Virginia. Our school is considered Title I due to the extreme poverty. All of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite their challenges, my students come to school ready to learn.
My classroom is composed of many different backgrounds—my students speak English, Spanish, Somalian, Dari, and a little Haitian Creole.
Unfortunately, we have students in our classroom who experience homelessness, too. I strive to make the classroom the BEST possible environment to make this a "safe" place to learn!
My Project
In our school, we use a leveled reading system that correlates to the alphabet. It's important that students can easily access books at their level.
By providing this bookcase, we will have a space-efficient way to store our books in an organized manner!
I plan to shelve the books by level or series, so this is the perfect way to do so!
Space can be at a premium, and that's why this vertical bookcase is so perfect for our room! We can save the space in the classroom by storing books UP! I also think students will be drawn to it, as it's a novel storage idea in a classroom setting.
