Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very curious bunch. They have and use technology but they have limited opportunities to understand how to make technology work for them, better yet, how to make technology do various kinds of work that robotics and computer science can do well.
They are eager to learn about new things and will step up to the challenges presented to them.
They want to be inspired. They also want the chance to have creative play experiences with technology that can be applied to coding, science, music, and the arts.
My Project
This new set from LEGO will be a hit with my middle school students who can use a boost in their creative problem solving skills. LEGO has packed this set with various bricks and pieces that allow them to develop creative solutions to various challenges in the supplied curriculum.
Students will build confidence through the hands-on experience of arranging the configuration of LEGO's colorful pieces, motors and sensors as they work together to develop social skills.
The scratch coding will make the projects more accessible and allow their creative minds to bring what they make to life. We will be using the robot in after school clubs and lunchroom challenges to maximize the impact at our school. We will also use the robot in our engineering class as they work through the inventions challenges in the LEGO units.
