My Students

So you just got home from work and the last thing you really want to think about is how you are going to get your first grader to do their reading homework without throwing a complete fit.

Our school is a Title One school located in a rural area with an increased population of ESL (English as a Second Language) learners and a high poverty rate.

Many students have little to no assistance at home and also lack adequate educational materials at home. My project will primarily be used with my class of 20 first graders but materials will be able to be checked out and used in other classrooms.

My Project

Reading is a vital part of first grade and getting parents to read with their children every night is very important. Purchasing these literacy-building backpacks is a great way to encourage at-home readingâ€"with irresistible books and hands-on activities for parents and students to share! Each pack features a paperback book with easy-reading text that’s just right for my early readers and write & wipe cards filled with fun, skill-building activities that get parents and students motivated to do homework. This allows for students not to just sit and home and have to read a book every night, but be able to bring that book to life and make it interactive. This will allow students to become self motivated to want to complete their homework and read with their parents. It also creates quality at home reading time between parent and child while they work on all the hands on activities that correlate with the book.

Please help me motivate my students and parents to take a little time to spend together and have quality reading and learning time together.

Having this home support will allow by students to grow in reading because they are receiving extra reading support and home. It will also help students become self motivated, so when they become independent readers they will be motivated to complete their homework on their own.
