The students in my classroom range from ages 3 to 5. They are eager learners and strive to do their best. They love hands on activities and experiences. As a teacher here, I try to provide them with as much active learning as I can. I believe that letting children have a say and active role in their learning creates a love and drive for learning.
Our students are all from a rural area with a big need for resources and positive influences for its' children.
We aim to make the classroom a healthy, safe and fun place to be. The students treat it like a second home, helping to clean up when they are finished playing, set the tables for lunch and decorate the room with original art work.
My Project
We would like to replace the sand in our Sand Table with a better quality sand and need about 75lbs of it for our large sand table. I would also like to make sand-play an even more meaningful and educational experience. I feel that adding kitchen equipment will bring Dramatic play and cooking into sand area and perhaps inspire pretend play. The ice cream set will be wonderful for any student with fine motor skill issues or delays to build up those muscles. The Dino dig will not only go perfectly with our dinosaur theme but also give the students a task and challenge in Sand Table. I would also like to incorporate Math into other areas of the classroom and the number shells are a smooth, easy way to do that.
