My students are the best. I could not be more amazed by these 5- and 6-year-olds. They show up every day with smiles on their faces and an overwhelming amount of love in their hearts. Their desire to learn and excel impresses me daily.

Our school is a Title I school; therefore, assistance is provided to 100% of our students. We are also a Leader in Me school. The Leader in Me is based on Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People; this initiative focuses on empowering confidence and creating well-rounded learners and leaders.
My Project
Sight words are the words that appear frequently in texts and do not typically follow any phonetic pattern. It is key that students are able to memorize these words and read them just by looking at the them. Sight word knowledge is one of the main skills we focus on in kindergarten as there are about 50 words the students need to learn and they make up about 75% of the words in the books my students read and the sentences they write themselves.
A great knowledge of sight words provides students with the confidence that comes with being a reader; but practicing them can get tedious.
This is why I am asking for materials to make sight words exciting again! The chalk boards, magnet doodle boards, and boogie boards will allow students to practice writing their words in fun, playful ways. The students will love smashing their words into play dough with the stampers. The letter stringing beads and letter snaps will give the students some fine motor practice while building words. The kids' favorite toys are magnet blocks so they will go absolutely crazy for building words with lettered magnet blocks! This is a very exciting project for the kids and we cannot thank you enough for caring about our classroom!
