Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our students come from hard-working families who don't always have a lot of money. They're good kids who want to learn! I'm proud to say that, despite our challenges, parents in other areas of our city send their children to us because they know we have a learning environment here.

We work hard at our school, and we know that learning must be enjoyable to be educational.

We get our hands on our learning every chance we get. It could be using Cheetos to dust 'pollen' from flower to flower, dancing out our anti-bullying rap, or forming an island out of play dough to demonstrate our landforms.

My Project

Even though I'm only mid-thirties, I can already tell that technology is outpacing my ability to keep track of how to use it (and teach, and raise a kid, etc.) Not only that, but my district is struggling to simply provide functioning technology to our neediest students.

These Sphero devices are a simple way to introduce my students to the types of learning and job demands they'll have by the time they graduate college.

No, they won't all be programmers, but in just the same way that everyone uses the internet now, I suspect coding language will be more widespread in a couple of decades. And if I'm wrong, at least they'll have some fun!
