My Students

My students are 4th and 5th graders in

Bethel, Connecticut who love using technology and learning.

I work with every student in the community, therefore my students are very diverse in their backgrounds and learning styles. I work with all ranges from gifted and talented students to special education students. The one thing they have in common is that they are all enthusiastic.

Students arrive at my classroom door excited to work with new technologies. I enjoy showing them the basics to get started and then watching their creativity come alive as they use technology to create and solve problems.

My Project

Students will work collaboratively to program the Sphero mini robots through a variety of student created mini golf courses. While programming they will need to work to solve challenges and correct mistakes as they navigate Sphero step by step through a given course.

Students will engage in a fun game of mini golf while working on their coding and problem solving skills.

Students can drive the Sphero using blockly or text for those who are advanced at programming. Spheros go beyond just coding adding robotics and STEAM activities to nurture student creativity. Sphero minis make programming fun. This small robot is a powerful and engaging tool for programming. Sphero minis are a great addition to teaching computer science at the elementary level adding a hands on component and helping students to exercise and improve their programing skills.
