This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are public school district students. This school district gives children from low socio-economic areas and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive in the community. My energetic kindergarteners enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore. One hundred percent of my students qualify for free or reduced-price meals and are below the poverty line. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

The materials in this list will make a huge difference in my students’ learning. The CVC word cards will help students sound out, spell and read new words. As the students become familiar with such words, students will then have the opportunity to use the white erase boards, read the word, write it and illustrate it. Mastering the CVC spelling word patterns will not only help reinforce letter sound and blending of such sounds but also be able to create whole new words. Phonemic awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds within words. Mastering phonemic awareness is essential to becoming a successful reader.
