Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what they will learn that day. Many of them come to school with a great amount of baggage, but are able to put that aside while in school in order to learn the most that they can. My students are from a low-income area and and therefore have minimal resources and opportunities at home. Some of my students lost many personal items, due to Hurricane Harvey.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My students will benefit tremendously from your generous donations.
My Project
With the Ollie and the Lighting McQueen robots, my students can program the robots to change colors in a specific or random arrangement, make the robots move (forward, backward) and can make them run in specific pathways! Because the robots move, students have to think through the program in order to control the robots. This builds critical thinking and logic skills that are missing from pencil and paper worksheets. The iPad will allow my students to manipulate the robots through the Ollie app as well as manipulate and explore with other coding games.
Your donations will provide long lasting tools to help my students learn how to logically assemble a coding program to make robots move.
My students will now have a hands-on opportunity to learn as their experience with coding grows. Learning programming through robots provides students with job skills needed when they leave high school. More importantly, now they will be interested in learning the coding skills needed to make the robots move!
