I teach in a small, rural school in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. It is a tight-knit community, and after spending a short time there, one would be able to tell this! Being from a small school, our budgets are low to acquire new equipment for our PE program. Our kids love new games and sports. They are always ready to try something new!
I want to help my students learn how to live an active lifestyle and to continue this as they grow older.
I would love to show my students some of the ways they can do this with different types of equipment that isn't something they see everyday. I am very excited to start this project!
My Project
Sport Stacking is a fitness based sport that kids from all backgrounds and abilities can do. Being in a rural area and with not a lot of funding, this will be able to reach many students.
They can be for the athlete and non-athlete alike, young and old, sport stacking can be a great enhancement for fitness routines.
Less athletic kids can now compete head to head with the more athletic students in their class. This significantly raises their self-esteem, motivating them to work harder in PE and be excited to participate. It's a WIN, WIN for both the students and myself.
Sport stacking on a regular basis has shown increases on students' test scores and levels of concentration. This is achieved by students using both their right and left sides of their brain. When students cross the "midline" of their bodies and developing new connections in their brains. These new connections help to spur brain growth which then promotes greater academic achievement.
