Our school is located in a rural area, where you can hear the birds chirping and see the stars at night. Our school district is the largest, geographically, in the state of Illinois. We are also home to a large Amish community.
These young students are full of childlike enthusiasm and are eager about learning and improving their communication skills!
It is both an honor and a privilege to be their speech-language pathologist and provide them with the skills and tools they need to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I provide speech and language services to children ranging from Pre-K to High School. The majority of my students are in Pre-K to 6th grade. Students come to therapy 1-4 times a week to work on a variety of skills such as articulation, social skills, improving their receptive and expressive language skills, vocabulary acquisition, multiple meaning words, fluency, and so much more!
My Project
While my district has been successful safely providing in-person instruction for this school year, we never know when we will be required to move into a fully remote learning scenario. Even now, I have permanent remote learning students and those that are placed on temporary remote learning status because of COVID-19.
The students in my district need engaging and appropriate virtual therapy materials to help assist them in meeting their speech and language goals.
These virtual materials can also be used by students who are in-person learners while using their Chromebooks.
While I have many materials that have been purchased by my district, myself, and gracious donors through this very platform, most are not appropriate for social distancing or remote/virtual learning.
