My students need a sensory table, flexible seating options, and fidgets to incorporate sensory stimulation and movement into their speech therapy sessions.
As a speech-language pathologist, I work with many different kinds of children every day. These students vary in age, from 3 all the way up to 18. While most of them are in general education classrooms, some of my students spend most of the day in special education classrooms, including a couple kiddos with challenging behaviors that I see in our on-site behavior unit.
My students all have different needs including severe attention issues, sensory integration difficulties, articulation and language disorders, and auditory processing issues.
Because their needs are so vast, and oftentimes very specific, it takes a lot of different materials and tools to give them the best learning environment possible. My students deserve more than I can afford to give them myself.
My Project
With these materials, I'll be able to provide more specified supports for each of my students. Some of my students require flexible seating options like the Wiggle Cushions and Ball Chairs to promote good attention. My students with ADHD and autism will benefit from increased movement and sensory stimulation during their sessions by using the fidgets and sensory table.
These materials will not only benefit my current students, but years of future students that may require speech therapy.
My students will use these items day in and day out to supplement their speech therapy. Help my students get their specific and individual needs met, and give them the opportunity to succeed in our classroom.
