Speech Therapist Needs Materials for Exceptional Students
Help me give my students the books, pretend play food, art materials and seat cushions to help them achieve their goals! These materials will help with following directions, answering questions and learning vocabulary.
Do you know what it's like not being able to communicate effectively with your peers in elementary school? My students face these challenges every day. Help them achieve their speech and language goals so they can benefit in the classroom and daily life!
Many of the students I service are having difficulty maintaining attention, following directions, retaining vocabulary and answering simple who, what, where, when and why questions.
Consequently, they suffer academically and sometimes even socially because they are picked on. Many students come from households where they are only exposed to languages other than English. Some of these students then suffer when trying to communicate with classmates and teachers because they can't understand how to answer certain questions. The school is in an high need area. Ours is a Title I school, so at least 60% of students must be enrolled in the free or reduced price lunch program.
According to a comprehensive information report, students and families at this school require financial public assistance. The students could really use your help in receiving materials they would not normally be exposed to!
My Project
Please help my students receive these motivating and interesting materials! The books I requested which contain familiar characters can help the students make connections. Many of the materials (e.g., pretend food, arts and crafts materials) requested will allow my students to learn in an interactive way. When working on following directions that are orally presented, it is important for the students to develop strategies in the therapy room that they can generalize in the classroom. This type of activity focuses not only on auditory processing, but also vocabulary and prepositional concepts that are essential in the early elementary school years. I also selected seat cushions that can help students stay in their seat that have sensory and attention issues.
Donations will make a huge impact on my students!
Not only will these materials help my students achieve their goals, but this can be a fun and extremely motivational way for them to work hard! Many of these materials can be adapted throughout all of the grade levels from Pre-K-5th grade and would make a huge difference on these children!
