Help me help my speech students succeed in the very important areas of science and mathematics!
I am the speech-language pathologist at a dynamic and creative elementary school.
I work with many students who are on the Autism Spectrum. As the speech-language pathologist, my goal is to help these students develop appropriate verbal and nonverbal responses so they can have appropriate interactions with their peers, both inside and outside of the classroom.
My Project
The iPad minis I am requesting will help me work on these appropriate interactions with my speech students. There are many wonderful apps on the iPad that would allow my students to create stories using comic strip formats. This allows me to help students with language delays and disorders map out their own personal narratives, which is at the core of social pragmatic language.
The laminator pouches and Velcro would be used for the picture exchange system I use to help my students develop the language they need to interact effectively with their peers. Having these positive peer interactions is very important as my students engage in science and math education. I also want to help my students learn to use technology in appropriate ways, and as a communication tool.
Many science and math lessons at my school involve student collaboration and students working in teams together.
In order for my speech students to get the most out of science and math activities, they need to learn to communicate appropriately. I am so thankful for Chevron's Fuel Your School Program for considering funding these iPad minis and other materials so my students can successfully participate in these very important educational lessons!
