Help me give my students books for speech therapy circle time! These books are filled with repetitive phrases, rhyming words, and fun ways to elicit and surround my preschoolers with age-appropriate language! Let's get them talking!
My students are fun-loving preschoolers with Autism and other disabilities who are receiving speech and language services. I have a wide variety of students with various communication goals related to expressive language (getting their thoughts, wants, and needs communicated to others), receptive language (understanding what is communicated to them), social communication, following directions, and more. These little ones are eager to participate learn and love doing so in fun, supportive, and creative environments, which is my #1 goal to provide!
Let's support the development of these little one's speech and language skills!
My Project
As a new speech therapist right of a grad school, I started this project hoping to build a library of books that can target multiple speech and language skills while facilitating the generalization of skills across multiple contexts through a circle time therapy model. These books (Pete the Cat, There Was an Old Lady Who..., and How to Catch a...) contain repetitive phrases that my students with minimal expressive language can feel confident beginning to repeat and fill in the blanks while expanding their vocabulary, answering wh- questions, and more. These books go hand-in-hand with book companions and AAC adapted book materials from TeachersPayTeachers, which contain more hands-on speech and language materials to carry over into small group and individual therapy sessions. With these books, I will be able to target multiple goals during a whole class circle time, adapt the books for my non-verbal little ones, and reinforce these skills in each kiddos individual sessions. Please help my little ones grow their vocabularies and communication skills!
