The speech therapy department is in desperate need of new materials to meet the individual needs of our students.
Our students range in age from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade.
We are an elementary school in Texas. The children who will benefit from your donation are children with language and articulation disorders. Children with language delays tend to have a difficult time through high school. Early intervention is extremely important to the children's success.
My Project
I am requesting materials to meet the individual needs of the children on my campus with articulation and language disorders. They each have Individual Education Plans and are provided with speech therapy in a small group setting during their school day. The materials we have for children with language disorders were purchased in the 1970s. These materials are not relevant to the children. There are pictures of record players and percolators. One set of sequencing cards shows a "woman's daily duties" which includes her wearing a dress, apron, and heels as she goes to the grocery store and prepares dinner for her family. With new materials, I will be able to meet each child's goals with materials that are exciting and interesting to the children.
Speech and language delays impact a child's learning throughout childhood.
By meeting the individual needs of each child, we can help provide a strong foundation as they continue throughout their education. My students need speech therapy materials, like language learning cards and social skills boards games, to replace the antiquated materials we have available.
