SPED Teacher Needs ADHD/Autism Friendly Classroom Set-Up

My students need a chance to sit in my classroom at an appropriate table and have chairs that will accommodate their disabilities.

My Students

I teach 5th and 6th grade. I am a special education teacher. I teach reading and math intervention to small groups of 3 to 5 students in 45 minute classes. My students all have disabilities which impede their learning. Many teachers make them remain seated and not wiggling all day. I would like to give them the opportunity to move around freely in my classroom while I advocate for them. My students have problems sitting still in class all day.

I would like to have 5 chairs specially designed for students with ADHD and Autism.

My Project

One of my greatest hopes for my students is that they not just learn to read, but listen while able to express their disabilities! They can move around and remain actively engaged in their own learning. Having unique specialty seating is a great way to keep them engaged in intervention and less likely to "zone out.” The chairs will be used to allow my students to move and wiggle while they learn!

I would love for all my students to be able to come to class and sit in flexible chairs that would allow them to overcome the stigma of you must remain seated and still to learn!
