Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing, unique, and talented learners!
They are optimistic, persistent, hungry for knowledge, and most of all, always show up NO MATTER WHAT.
Trauma, poverty, homelessness, death, violence, disabilities do not stop my students from learning in innovative and creative ways. They continue to increase their reading levels, are writing 5 paragraph essays, learn to code and incorporate technology in their learning through Google Apps for Education, and are learning functional curriculum in addition to skill-based academics. They are eager to go out into the world to become productive assets in our society in spite of their challenges and disabilities.
Partner with me and let us continue to teach them in ways that are meaningful and relevant to them, in ways that are unique because my students are Unique Learners.

My Project
My students are working hard, learning hard, and learning all they could learn. They follow Edgar A. Guest in his poem "The Equipment" and are figuring it out for themselves,
They have all that the greatest of men have had,
With two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes,
They have their brain to use as they learn to be wise.
In spite of all their struggles,
They can say "I can."
Like the poem, they are facing their handicap, they are choosing their place.
My goal is to make them like the Freedom Writers. I wish for them to learn to write. Writing affords them the skills to spell and read as well, as they publish and share their compositions with one another. I believe that writing is liberating, as well as an important tool to counter all the negative onslaught of challenges they face in life. They can write all their pain away and all their dreams and hopes for a better future. Writing can guide them to a place of peace.
