Our students make up a diverse population of 2nd and 3rd grade SPED kiddos. Our school is considered Title I and about 40% of students receive a free or reduced lunch.
These kiddos are having to come to school still amidst the current pandemic.
My Project
Being a first year SPED teacher in this pandemic I do not have a lot of materials available to me to give these kids the kind of learning environment they deserve. Usually, a SPED classroom does not teach science, history, pe, or art. Now, we are teaching all of it.
On top of that, our administration took away the kids equipment to use outside during recess (hula hoops, jump ropes, ) due to COVID-19, so they are extremely bored.
This causes them to end up accidentally getting very close to each other over and over at recess time. If I had proper alternative equipment for each student, they would be able to social distance better during outdoor recess.
