My resourced English 9 classroom is a place where students come to grow and succeed. Every student is given what he or she needs to succeed and the focus is on mindfulness, attitude, achievement and motivation (yes ma'am!). Students spend the year learning how to become stronger readers and proficient writers/communicators, building a strong foundation of knowledge and skills they will need for a prosperous future.
The students are 9th graders with special needs in a public high school in the state of Michigan.
They are eager to fill the gaps in their reading and writing, and develop strategies as learners which can be transferred and applied in other classes. These students enjoy lessons that are fun and engaging and get them up and moving!
My Project
I am eager to make my classroom specially designed so that it is multi-sensory and engaging. Different learners, especially ones with ADHD, struggle to remain seated in their classrooms, taking focus away from learning. Traditional classroom structures do little to motivate and assist students. Modern classrooms foster learning in a positive, creative environment.
The purpose of ball chairs, bouncy bands and standing desks in the classroom is to enhance learning and promote healthy habits as part of an engaging classroom for special education students.
Students in my classroom will build important modern learning strategies to face the 21st project-based world.
