This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a diverse group of learners with a variety of needs. They range from PK to high school age. I love supporting them and helping them become independent learners and communicators!

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in an inner-city, high-need community.

I currently provide language support services to over 50 students with augmentative communication and assistive technology needs. Some of my students are emerging communicators and need pictures to augment their communication and support their learning. Other students are non-verbal and use communication devices (iPads) to communicate.

I am requesting a variety of adaptive equipment for my students who have motor challenges to access their iPads. The mounts will attach iPads to tables or wheelchairs and ensure that the students always have access to their device to express their wants/needs. The switches will ensure that students who can't reach out and touch the iPad, can have a switch to operate the iPad. The Apple trackpads will connect through bluetooth to work as a switch with iPads or the classroom Promethean board, how amazing is that? The screen protectors will keep the iPads safe so they are always available for learning and communicating. I'm also requesting books and laminating pouches for lessons to accelerate learning of vocabulary and student enrichment. All of these tools will give students access to the curriculum and ensure they can engage with their teachers and classmates for social and emotional connection.
