Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are kicking off our fair projects this year with the special needs students. They will be showing the goats with the help of their mentors at our Santa Barbara County Fair. This project is in it's fourth year and is now in two high schools and a grange group.
We are asking for some replacement supplies in order to help our students achieve their goals.
We now have had four years of mentors who have graduated through the program and many of them are now majoring in Special Education in college.
My Project
Our students are a mixture of special needs students and regular education students pairing up to raise goats for our county fair.
The Special Education students are responsible for feeding, walking, raising and showing the goats from April till our fair in July.
The regular education students are called mentors and in charge of teaching and helping these students reach their goals.
This program is now in its fifth year and I can not be more proud of the fact that many of the special needs students have moved on to full time jobs in the community in part because of the work ethic they learned in our program. In addition four of our past mentors are in college majoring teaching special education.
We will be using the goat stand in order to hold the goats while the students groom the animals with the new clippers and blades. The students will also use the supplements ordered to make sure the animals are eating well and gaining the weight they need. These supplies are essential to the
