Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is a Title I school that sits in the heart of Washington, DC. I have a group of 67 students who are fun loving, eager-to-learn new things, excited about school and love to read. My classroom would be considered a melting pot of cultural heritage and social needs. Many of my students have been in the U.S. less than 4 years. They inspire me every day.

To meet their needs, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

My Project

In my class, there are students who have special needs and disabilities. Because of the physical challenges they face, we have to find ways to accommodate each child. Issues that relate to motor skills require that these students use touch screen computers as they cannot manipulate a mouse or type on a keyboard.

We were just recently able to assess each child's individual needs and the one underlying factor was the need for them to use a touchscreen device to learn on a computer.

We are requesting one Microsoft Surface Go computer that is portable and can move with the children. Your support for this project would ensure that our special needs fifth graders are learning in an inclusive environment and have equal access to technology as their peers.
